Pensioner discovered hanged at Daventry Country Park

THE body of a pensioner from Daventry has been found hanged from a tree at the town’s country park.

The 71-year-old man, who has not been named, was discovered on Friday at 5.15pm in a secluded area of woodland at the park.

An extensive overnight search was launched on Thursday last week after he was reported as missing to police.

A spokesman for the force said: “We had around 25 officers on the ground looking for the missing man as well as the police helicopter up in the sky searching for him. This was certainly among the more intensive searches that we have carried out. We used a lot of resources to try and find him.”

He was not found on Thursday and the search resumed the following day when his body was discovered by a policeman searching Daventry Country Park.

A police spokesman added: “We can confirm the body was discovered by a police officer on Friday night.”

She said it was found near to the scout hut, the home of the Second Daventry Scouts. However she also confirmed the area where it was found was well hidden and not easily accessible to members of the public. The area was cordoned off until 7pm.

His death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will now be prepared for the coroner with an inquest to be held at a future date.
