Parents are being offered a helping hand to get the Christmas shopping done thanks to a new initiative at Daventry Leisure Centre.

The Christmas Drop and Shop days will allow mums and dads to leave little ones at the centre to enjoy a day of fun and games while they head into town to pick up the festive essentials.

Organised by Daventry District Council’s leisure partner Everyone Active, they are being held on Saturdays in December, with the first taking place on Saturday in support of Small Business Saturday UK.

The Drop and Shop days, for children aged five to 12, will run at the Leisure Centre in Lodge Road from 10am to 4pm and cost £10 per child.

Youngsters will take part in arts and crafts and multi-sports activities during the day and will need to wear sports clothing, including trainers, and be sent with a packed lunch and re-fillable sports bottle. DDCs economic, regeneration and employment portfolio holder Cllr Chris Over said: “From its free parking to the superb range of independent shops and cafes, Daventry has so much to offer.

“Initiatives such as Small Business Saturday help shine a light on independent retailers and I would encourage people to shop locally and show their support for our businesses on December 6.”
