Offenders may escape court by saying sorry

CRIMINALS will soon be able to avoid court punishment if they apologise to their victims and “show remorse”.

Inspector Julia Potts, sector commander for Daventry, said she wants the town to go back to the “old fashioned way of policing”. And that will include offenders of minor crimes being able to avoid the judicial process if they say sorry to their victims.

Insp Potts told the Daventry Express: “We are going back to the old fashioned way where the person who commits a crime apologises to the victim and maybe does something for them, like gardening for example.
