Sally Townsend served as a Conservative member for the Blisworth and Roade ward of SNC between May 1999 and May 2015 when she stood down.

Mrs Townsend served on a wide range of committees and represented the council on a number of outside bodies during her 16 years as an elected member; but most notably she served as the council’s chairman during the municipal year of 2011/12.

The Leader of SNC, Cllr Ian McCord, said: “The news of Sally’s passing is a terrible blow. During her time at SNC she was a very conscientious councillor, and one who took a keen interest in planning matters.

“Sally also agreed to extend her term in office as chairman for a few months following the deaths of two vice-chairmen, working tirelessly until matters were resolved, something that was typical of her public service ethos.

“Sally will be missed by all at SNC and my thoughts are with her husband Peter and her family at this very difficult time.”

Mrs Townsend’s funeral takes place on Tuesday, December 29, 12.30pm at The Counties Crematorium, Towcester Road, Milton Malsor, Northampton, NN4 9RN.

The family have asked for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
