It rained and it poured on Daventry’s Gala Day in 1991.
Despite the awful weather, it became clear the public was not to be put off from attending as a sea of umbrellas filled the site.
The event was opened by Gala Queen Samantha Green, followed by Zippo the clown who tripped and slid about in foam.
Then came the car pull, and the two teams did a good impression of Zippo as they tried to haul their vehicles across the muddy and waterlogged field.
The float parade was won by the senior gym section from the Phoenix Youth Centre with their circus themed float.
But the heavy rain caused the normal route of the parade to be shortened, and event organisers the Daventry Lions said overall the event – which raised money for charities – had not been supported as well as usual by the general public.
