Northamptonshire village remembers hero airman
Spratton Local History Society organised a First World War event at the weekend to mark the anniversary of the death of Lt William B Rhodes-Moorhouse, the first airman to receive the Victoria Cross.
Hundreds of people turned out to watch the Great War Society drilling, look at the English Heritage biplane, and listen to lectures on the war in the air by the RAF Museum London, on fashions in 1914-18 by History Wardrobe.

Hide AdThere was also talk on Victoria Cross airman William Rhodes-Moorhouse by local author Enid Jarvis, who launched a new book entitled “Lt William B Rhodes-Moorhouse VC RFC – A Northamptonshire Hero” this week which tells the story of the airman’s pioneering role in the history of aviation and his life in Northamptonshire as well as his brave last flight on the Western Front in 1915.
