The Department of Meat & Social Affairs in Bridge Street - formerly The Deparment of Liquor bar and music venue - will launch on June 11 after a re-fit including the installment of a new kitchen and team of chefs.

They will be offering a menu of American-inspired dishes such as “high quality burgers”, fried chicken, ribs, milkshakes and homemade ice cream, as well as a selection of craft beers.

The two-floor venue will be welcoming guests with a new decor of bespoke furniture, lighting and art exhibitions - its second makeover since it was bought by the Old Northampton Group. It will also be offering diners entertainment in the form of ping-pong tables and regular live music sessions.

Tino Pezzillo, general manager, said: “It’s going to be a modern day burger bar offering the ultimate comfort foods, served with a smile in a sociable and comfortable setting.

“We’re putting the emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and will only be using premium cuts of meat to make our burgers, all of which will be hand made and pressed in our kitchens. We’ll be taking the humble burger to a whole new level.”

As well as seating 100 guests, the restaurant will also be introducing a take-away service, open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 12 noon until 9pm. The rest of the venue can still be hired for music and private events after 10pm.

Mr Pezzillo added: “It’s all about raising the bar.

“Some of the places you see are a world apart from what we have previously had in Northampton and we want to bring some of that calibre of cooking to our home town.”
