People are being offered a helping hand to get back into work thanks to a new scheme in Daventry district.

The MOJO (Moving On To Job Opportunities) Project offers flexible support to benefits claimants, helping to boost their confidence and employability.

Run by Daventry District Council (DDC) in partnership with Daventry Jobcentre Plus, the scheme can help people to develop a step-by-step plan to boost their employability.

It can also support them on the road back to work by arranging valuable work experience opportunities to improve their CV as well as suggesting courses and services to improve wellbeing.

The project, which is funded by the Government Department of Work and Pensions Flexible Support Fund, is being offered to anyone in receipt of a benefit in Daventry district.

It can be particularly helpful for people on work-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) who might appreciate the extra time and personalised support offered to help them with the challenges of getting ready to go back to work.

Katie Jones, community projects officer at DDC, said: “The aim is to offer support for benefit claimants to help them prepare for the world of work and find the right job for them.

“We take a very flexible approach to that support by meeting wherever the person feels most comfortable and working with them at their own pace, according to their particular needs and wants.

“For instance some people might need a confidence boost, so we can sit down together and look at ways to address that. Others might not know what kind of work they would like or have been out of work for a long time.

“We can look at the overall picture and help them make informed choices. We can put them in touch with community groups and services that can make a real difference in their lives. Ultimately we want to help people find lasting employment that meets their needs and helps them fulfil their potential.”

Councillor David James, economic, regeneration and employment portfolio holder on Daventry District Council, said: “This is a fantastic service to help District residents who are out of work and we are delighted to be able to offer it in partnership with Daventry Jobcentre Plus.

“I would urge anyone who wants to work, no matter how difficult they have found it to gain employment in the past, to contact the MOJO Project and find out how it can help them.”
