New school in Daventry needed to meet future demand

DAVENTRY is heading towards a ‘crisis’ with a lack of primary school places.

Northamptonshire County Council confirmed this week that there are 600 reception places at Daventry’s primary and infant schools and that “all schools would be at, or close to” full from September.

Previously it had argued that as there are plenty of primary places in Daventry, it would not provide the planned Middlemore school.

But even more homes are due to be built on Middlemore and there is the 1,000-home Monksmoor scheme in the pipeline. Despite that estate having plans for a school, it will not be built any time soon.

Now Daventry District Council has lodged a planning application to build 45 new homes on the Middlemore site which had been originally earmarked for a school – something which has galvanised the estate into action.
