A Daventry church will hold its first Sunday service for several years this month after finding a new home and a new pastor.

Daventry Baptist Church’s first new Sunday service will be held at the new band hall on the corner of Daneholm Avenue and Ashby Road on January 12 at 10.30am.

The relaunch of the church comes after a period of decline for the group, and sees them dedicating themselves to growing and engaging with the community.

The Rev Bill Winter said: “A little Baptist congregation has existed here for a long time. But about six years ago they lost their pastor. They carried on meeting in a school hall, but the group dwindled with people leaving to join Baptist congregations in Long Buckby or Rugby.

“They joined with Daventry URC but after a time they felt that wasn’t working. In the end it was a group of about 10 people meeting on Wednesdays in someone’s house.

“My wife and I moved from Loughborough to Daventry to be closer to our daughter and we found the fellowship. In time they asked me to minister to them, and now we are setting up our first Sunday services for several years. We are really excited about it. We don’t want to poach people from the other churches in town really. We want to find those who aren’t a member of a particular fellowship already.

“We want to look after the spiritual growth of our members, but also we want to be involved in the wider community – those with faith but no specific church and those with no faith, who together make up the majority of the population after all.

“We will hopefully join Daventry Churches Together and work to help the community.”
