New jobs on horizon after plans unveiled for 70,000 sq ft Daventry warehouse costing £9.5m

Permission to demolish the former Focus DIY retail and warehouse unit in Sopwith Way in Drayton Fields was granted in April 2018, which will make way for the new 70,000 sq ft building.

The plans are classed as speculative, meaning an occupier is yet to be found but the developer, Barberry Group, is confident it will be able to find one.

"I am pleased to announce that we have completed the acquisition of the former Focus DIY site in Sopwith Way, Daventry, and are looking forward to delivering a high-quality warehouse in a prominent location fronting the A361 Drayton Way," said Barberry development director Jon Robinson.

"The site is located next to the established Drayton Fields Industrial Estate, which has limited availability due to its popularity and we hope to provide additional accommodation to fit with occupational demand.

"This will be a speculative development, demonstrating our confidence in both the Barberry product, the location and the appetite within the industrial and logistics sector for warehouse units of this size across the Midlands market.

"Our investment will help generate new jobs for Daventry and further economic growth.”

Barberry aims to submit a planning application to Daventry District Council before the end of the year.

If planning consent is given, the company wants to start building in the second quarter of 2019 with practical completion expected later that year.
