New figures on adoption

CHILDREN in care in Northamptonshire wait more than 18 months on average before they are adopted, new figures have revealed.

The Government has released the first ever local authority ‘adoption scorecards’, based on figures from 2009 to 2011, which show the county is below the national average of 20 months.

The figures also show the average time it takes between a local authority receiving court authority to place a child and deciding on an adoptive family.

In Northamptonshire this figure is 189 days, compared to a national average of 171.
