THE fire service were called out to rescue a man trapped in a van at Flore by flood water.

The van was in Brickett’s Lane in the village at around 1.30am and ended up in water around two feet deep.

Crews from Mereway, The Mounts, Wllingborough, Daventry and Towcester were called out.

The photo was taken at around 8am this morning (Thursday, November 22) by Steve Larner at Flore Mill.

He said: “The police had closed the road - but I do not know if this was after four cars and one large van were stuck in the floods around Flore Mill.

“I tried this road (between Flore playing field and the canal) at 4pm yesterday and did not attempt what was a growing flood – there were no cars stuck at this time.

“You can see on the Audi convertible the water reached up to the windows at one stage and I don’t know if the driver escaped out of the window. There was mud and silt up to the armrests on this vehicle.”

Wednesday’s heavy rain caused problems across the district.

The fire service attended more than 10 flood-related calls in the Daventry area alone. Several major roads also had standing water, or more severe floods on them causing problems in the evening rush hour.
