Two lanes of the M1 northbound were blocked at around 10pm on Saturday May 16 after three vehicles came into contact with each other, just north of the Whilton Marina bridge between junctions 16 and 17.

Today a police spokesperson said one of the cars involved had been stationary after breaking down.

The stretch of roadworks between junctions 15a and 19 of the motorway does not have a hard shoulder.

None of the people involved in the incident received serious injuries.
