Lorry fire in Northamptonshire after ‘number of explosions’ causes disruption

Severe disruption has been caused on a Northamptonshire road this morning due to a lorry that burst into flame after a “number of small explosions”.

The lorry, believed to be carrying a cargo of stone, caught fire in the northbound lane of the A43, outside the Green Man pub near Silverstone, around 8am today.

It was described by witnesses as “well alight” and releasing a lot of fumes.

Police and fire services attended the incident after the lorry driver reportedly tried to stop traffic himself.

Although no injuries were reported, there has been significant damage to the road and police are still at the scene waiting for the vehicle to be recovered.

A police spokesman said: “There were a number of small explosions, possibly due to a burst diesel tank.

The northbound lane where the lorry is is still closed and there is likely to still be some disruption.”
