POLICE investigating the hi-jacking of a lorry, kidnap of its driver, theft of its cargo and abandonment in Crick, are seeking information from locals.

The 40-foot white unmarked articulated lorry, with a 02 registration plate, was hi-jacked at knifepoint in the New Forest, Hampshire, between 7.30pm and 8.30pm Monday, July 9.

The driver, a 36-year-old Hertfordshire man, was kidnapped and forced to drive to Northamptonshire.

Police believe the lorry’s cargo, £700,000 of cosmetics on black-wrapped pallets, was off-loaded into another lorry in Northamptonshire before the hi-jacked vehicle was abandoned near Crick.

A passerby spotted the lorry and released the driver who was restrained in the cab. The driver was not injured.

Hampshire detectives are appealing for information from anyone who saw the lorry being unloaded in Northamptonshire. They also want to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle between 11pm on Monday, July 9, and 5.30am on Tuesday, July 10.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Inspector Ellie Hurd at Southampton Central police station on 0845 045 45 45 or contact the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
