A PLANNING inquiry into controversial plans for 132 homes in Long Buckby will get underway this morning (Tuesday).

Buckby Residents Against Controversial Estates (BRACE) are the action group fighting against plans for two separate housing estates to be built in Station Road and have been gathering almost a 1,000 signatures to submit to the inquiry,

Developers Hallam Land Management want to build 132 homes on the West Side of Station Road and are appealing Daventry District Council’s decision to refuse planning permission in March.

Campaigners also anticipate an appeal against the decision to refuse 107 homes on the opposite side of the road.

BRACE’s Liz Barnard who is due to speak at the planning inquiry, said: “It is really hard to get a feel for how it is going to go and I think it depends very much on the inspector.

“We feel very strongly that it is not the right site and there is a lot of opposition to it in the village so we remain hopeful that it will be turned down.”

She said that the group are not against extra housing as long as those houses are in the right place within the confines of the village.
