Leisure cost set to rise

PRICES at Daventry Leisure Centre are set to rise in the New Year.

Daventry Active Ltd (DAL) has revealed that from January 1 the cost of an adult swim will go up from £3.45 to £3.55 per session, while a badminton court will increase from £7.95 to £8.75.

The cost of hiring the whole sports hall will go from £50 to £55 per hour and the hire of the whole pool will also increase from £60 to £75 per hour.

Junior swimming is currently heavily subsidised and costs £1 per session, but this will change to £2.20 from April 1, although DAL will be introducing new schemes that will enable juniors to swim for less than 50p per day.

DAL manages the centre, which is owned by Daventry District Council.

DAL chairman Keith Bedford said the price rises are the first increases at the centre since April 2009.

He added: “The new prices will be in line or below those charged by our nearest competitors in Northampton, Rugby, Banbury and Towcester. The junior swimming subsidy was due to end in April 2011, but has been extended to March 31, 2012. DAL intends to introduce a range of junior swimming options which will bring significant benefits.”
