Late meeting agrees Daventry district's council tax rates

Levels for council tax bills for the district were set at a special meeting on Monday night.

Daventry District Council agreed its own tax precept for the year, and passed a resolution authorising the bills be sent out.

The extraordinary meeting was held just hours after Northamptonshire County Council rubber stamped its own budget. DDC had to wait for the outcome before agreeing to send out the bills.

The average Band D home in the district will pay £1,111.25 to Northamptonshire County Council. This includes a special two per cent levy of £21.38 ring-fenced for adult social care.

Northamptonshire Police will charge the average household £204.96.

Daventry District Council’s share of the tax bill is £132.93 for a Band D home – this includes a special £5 a year increase the council has been permitted by Government as it charges a low rate and has fewer savings to be made as government funds are reduced.

Parish and town councils can also add precepts to the council tax bill.

In Daventry the town council is adding £45.65 to the average Band D bill. In other places in the district the amount varies from nothing up to £177.07 in Moulton.

As in past years there will also be ‘special expenses’ charged to addresses in Byfield, Daventry, Long Buckby and Weedon.

These cover costs to the district council for services it provides in those places which are deemed to only benefit people from those areas, such as maintaining closed churchyards, parks, or public toilets. These range from £7.81 a year in Weedon, to £44.22 in Daventry.

Band D bills will therefore range from £1,449.14 to £1,626.21, and in Daventry be £1,539.01.

A Band D home pays the standard amount, while other bands pay a fraction or multiple of this amount set by legislation. A 25 per cent discount will remain for single adult households.
