Jack's fun walk in honour of two relatives

Jack Humphrey, nine, is the organiser of The Big Walk, taking place at Pitsford Reservoir on May 29.

He said: “I wanted to organise a walk in memory of my uncle Andy who passed away with MND.

“People can walk, run or cycle in support of the event, which should be great fun.”

Funds will also go to the MS Society after Jack’s grandad, Gary Spratt, was diagnosed with the disease last September.

Gary, 43, who used to work at A A H Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Weedon, said: “I first knew something was seriously wrong when I woke up one morning and couldn’t see out of my left eye.

“It has been life-changing, but I’ve tried to stay positive.”

Gary, who now has to use a wheelchair, said he was humbled when his grandson came up with the idea to raise money for charity.

“Jack came up with the idea for a family fun day all on his own,” he said.

“It reduced me to tears that off his own back he came up with the plan to raise money and awareness of both diseases.”

The family hope lots of people support the fundraiser.

Gary said: “Jack is an amazing young man. I feel so very proud that he wants to get involved with charity work and give something back to two amazing causes.”
