A COUNCILLOR has called on local authorities to work together to help Daventry people through tough financial times.
Chris Long believes it’s time Daventry Town Council, Daventry District Council (DDC) and Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) all start pulling in the same direction for the good of the district.
The town council and DDC in particular have had their differences in the past, including disagreements over town centre regeneration.
But Cllr Long, who represents Daventry West for NCC and Abbey North for DDC, said: “Whether the organisation is Daventry Town Council, Daventry District Council or Northamptonshire County Council there is only one group of customers, the residents of Daventry.
“Whether it’s the supply of social services from NCC, waste collection from DDC or Christmas lighting provided by the town council the recipient of services is always the same.
“With the VAT increase this month residents of Daventry have just entered what is likely to be one of the most austere financial periods that people will be able to remember.
“So now is the time for the local authorities, charity groups and volunteers to come together.”
