Housing association and councillors highlight the need for housing in Daventry district for people with local connections

Taking place from July 11 to 17, Rural Housing Week aims to highlight rural housing issues and showcase how housing associations are tackling the issues by providing affordable housing for these communities.

Phase 3 of NRHA’s development at Maple Close in the village is currently underway and will bring an additional 12 to the village.

Pam Booker, Tenant Representative on the NRHA Board, welcomed councillors from Daventry District Council and Braunston Parish Council, along with staff from EMH homes and NRHA to the site in Braunston to explain what a difference affordable housing is making for the local community.

A tenant since 1994, Pam has been championing the cause for affordable rural housing for local people for many years.

Twenty affordable homes were developed in Braunston during Phases 1 and 2, but a housing needs survey carried out in 2013 showed that further affordable properties were needed to enable local people to remain in the village.

This latest phase will see 10 properties built for affordable rent and two for shared ownership and has the full support of the parish and district councils, with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

It is hoped that the new homes will be completed in July 2017 and will all be offered to people with a local connection to the village.
