A GOLDEN couple from Daventry celebrated 50 years of marriage at the weekend.
Henry Ward, 70, and his wife Sheila, 69, met at a dance before tying the knot in 1962.
The couple, who live on Hawkins Close in Daventry, got married in Essex before moving to Daventry in 1967. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Mrs Ward, who used to work in the canteen at Southbrook Infants School, said: “Henry worked for Fords so when they moved to Daventry we moved too. He wouldn’t have had a job otherwise.
“Three weeks later I gave birth to our son, David, and we also have a daughter, Maxine.
“All the family came to the house on Saturday to celebrate the occasion and then we went for a meal at Daventry Town Football Club on Sunday afternoon.
“The most important thing to me is family so if I’ve got everybody around then I’m happy.”
The couple also have four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
They are both now retired and Mrs Ward enjoys reading while Mr Ward is a keen runner and has competed in five London Marathons over the years.
