Helping students get a taste of the work place

A BODY who works with schools and companies to help young people get work-related education has won an award.

The Northamptonshire Education and Work Service (NEWS) at Connexions has received an award for its work with employers, schools and colleges across the Daventry area.

The award is run by the Institute for Education Business Excellence (IEBE) and accredits organisations to the Department for Education’s National Standard for Education Business Partnership Organisations.

The accreditation process involved an initial self-assessment, gathering of supporting evidence and an intensive assessment day by external assessors including sessions with students from local schools.

Manager of the education and work service team Kerry Senatore said: “We are all extremely proud of the work-related learning and enterprise services we offer, which help schools develop the skills of their young people in preparation for the future.

“In just eight months last year we engaged more than 200 businesses from all sectors supporting schools across the county and over 2000 individual young people. In addition more than 600 new employers were brought on board to support the provision of over 8,500 work experience placements.”
