Read all about it! The Daventry Express made a special appearance at a village flower festival at the weekend.
One of the highlights of the event, held at St Mary’s Church in Everdon, was the Gusher train – recreated in flowers.
The paper is known as The Gusher after a steam engine that used to serve the town, and was the subject of one of the installations, which sat on the chancel throughout the festival.
One of the organisers, Susie Critchlow, said: “The theme was all about reading matter and we created some displays based around the theme of newspapers – so we thought we definitely had to incorporate The Gusher.
“We had the train designed by someone in the village and then put flowers in the carriages.”
The event raised funds towards repairs to the church and the total is expected to achieve more than £3,000.
Mrs Critchlow said: “We want to get a water outlet installed on the inside of the church. At the moment, we are having to use a tap outside and bring water in which is tricky in the winter if the pipe is frozen.
“The festival went really well and we had lots of people turn up on both the Saturday and Sunday.”
