Get involved in improving life for the over-50s in Daventry district

Over 50s in Daventry District are being invited to a series of workshops to discuss what changes can be made to improve the quality of life for older people.

The events will give people an opportunity to meet other local residents and take part in a discussion on the results of Daventry District Council’s (DDC) Ageing Well survey.

There will be free refreshments at all the workshops.

Workshops take place on: Tuesday April 19 at Long Buckby Community Centre from 2pm to 4pm; Thursday April 21 at Byfield Village Hall from 2pm to 4pm; Tuesday April 26 at The Abbey, Daventry from 9.30am to 11.30am; Tuesday April 26 at Weedon Scout Hut from 2pm to 4pm; Thursday April 28 at Brixworth Community Centre Hall from 2pm to 4pm; Tuesday May 3 at Flore Millennium Hall from 2pm to 4pm; Wednesday May 11 at Braunston Village Hall from 2pm to 4pm; and Thursday May 12 at Crick Old School Hall from 2pm to 4pm. More than 600 people responded to the survey, offering their views on the impacts that getting older has on their housing, health, transport use and social lives.

Responses given to that survey and discussions held during the workshops will help shape DDC’s Older Person’s Strategy - Ageing Well in Daventry District 2016 - 2020.

The strategy aims to help give District residents a better quality of life in their later years. It will also help the Rural Isolation Project, which is being run by the council and its partners in order to better support people aged 65 and over who are suffering feelings of loneliness or isolation.

The winner of the hamper prize draw, which everyone entering the Ageing Well survey was given the chance to enter, was Beverley Higham, who decided to donate her prize to Kilsby House Residential Care Home, where her mum Ena Higham is being cared for.
