People and businesses are being encouraged to show their creative side by entering two competitions for this summer’s Daventry Arts Festival.
Organised by Daventry and District Housing (DDH), in partnership with a range of local organisations, the fifth annual Arts Festival starts on Saturday, July 4 and will feature arts and craft activities.
The photography competition is back and this year’s festival will also attempt to uncover Daventry’s literary talents in a poetry competition.
Sarah Sims, community development officer at DDH, said: “The Arts Festival remains popular with the people of Daventry and these competitions mean that we will be able to celebrate even more local talent. Hopefully, having the opportunity to showcase their work will capture the imagination of the community.
“We know that there is a thriving local amateur photography scene and I’m sure that there are plenty of passionate poets out there as well.”
Both competitions have three age categories – under 11, 11 to 18, and over 18. The photo competition is themed ‘Daventry through a lens’. There is also a Community Choice award decided by a public vote. Poetry entrants can choose or combine from four themes; friendship, memories, summer and community.
The Daventry Express is supporting both competitions and will publish the winning entries.
The deadline for both competitions is June 19. Entries will be judged and displayed during the three-week festival. The best poems will be showcased at the Daventry District Council offices while photographs will be exhibited at Daventry Library.
To enter send your poem or a copy of your photograph, as well as your name, age and contact details via email to firstname.lastname@example.org; submit it in person at the Daventry Town Council offices on New Street, Daventry; or drop it in or post it to Daventry & District Housing, Nene House, Sopwith Way, Daventry, NN11 8PB.
