MORE than £6,000 has been raised so far in the campaign to save the town’s Holy Cross Church.
The Daventry Express is getting behind the church’s fundraising effort as it aims to raise £129,000 by the end of the year.
English Heritage has put the building on its ‘at risk’ list and offered a major grant of £197,000. But that is dependant on the church raising the rest of the cash to complete the £320,00 project.
The main problem is the upper level stonework and balustrading at the church have become badly weathered which is becoming more and more of a hazard.
If the cash isn’t raised the church could be forced to close.
Secretary of the church’s building fund Steve Challen said: “Obviously we still have an awfully long way to go to reach our target.
“We continue to appeal to the Daventry community for their personal donations and support.”
Donations can be made via the church’s Just Giving website at Holy Cross Fundraising.
