Money and donations were collected for local food banks at a concert marking the start of 2016.

The Five Ways Benefice of the parishes of Aston le Walls, Boddington, Byfield, Eydon and Woodford Halse has been supporting the Daventry and the Banbury food banks during the last two years.

On New Year’s Day a concert of music by Bach, Haydn, Handel and the Strauss family was organised in Holy Cross Church, Byfield, by local musician from the Royal Academy of Music, Richard Buck.

Richard played a number of pieces on the trombone and on the organ.

Fellow student of the academy Merlin Miller performed on the guitar.

The concert was completed by local musicians Meriel Dickinson on the clavinova piano, and soprano Seren Thomas.

All the performers gave their time free of charge and the audience of some 60 people showed their appreciation with donations of cash amounting to in excess of £350 and a variety of hard goods to be divided equally between the two food banks.

All of the participating parish churches are open during the daytime and anyone wishing to make a donation to the food banks
can leave contributions in the labelled box in the churches.
