FLOODING UPDATE: List of roads in Northamptonshire closed due to flooding

Torrential rain across Northamptonshire has led to severe flooding across the county and the closure of a number of roads.

Northants Fire and Rescue Service said it had given advice to 59 flood callers and deployed pumps or other resources on 17 occasions since 7.30am.

The fire service and police received a number of calls from people who have become stuck in flood water after attempting to drive through it, and there have also been reports of livestock and horses becoming trapped in flooded fields.

Police officers and fire crews have also helped evacuate a school in Corby following flooding as well as a number of houses in Yelvertoft.

While the weather has improved, there is still substantial flooding in some areas and police and fire officers are advising people to take care while travelling and not to take undue risks while attempting to rescue animals or protect property.

Superintendent Chris Hillery said: “We have been liaising with partner agencies and the Met Office and the worst of the rain now seems to have passed.

“However, there a number of areas and roads still affected by flooding and as we move into the evening rush hour, this will inevitably have an impact on people as they make their way home.

“We advise drivers to avoid flooded roads and take an alternative route. The roads will be busy but please take extra care, especially as it starts to get dark, when it’s more difficult to see the water and judge its depth. Please be patient and don’t take risks.

“We have also received a number of calls from people concerned about horses and livestock in fields that have started to flood. We would urge owners to take steps to bring their animals to dry ground before the fields become too flooded but not to take undue risks to their own safety.

“We have published a list below of roads currently affected by flood water and for anyone concerned about protecting their property from flooding, Northamptonshire County Council’s Flood Toolkit – at www.floodtoolkit.com – provides extensive advice.”
