Firefighters still battling massive blaze in Northamptonshire barn

Residents in parts of Northamptonshire are being warned to keep their windows shut until at least midday today (Monday April 27) while emergency services deal with a massive barn fire.

Firefighters have spent all night battling the blaze near Long Buckby after six crews were called to the site in Station Road just after 8pm on Sunday.

It is believed the fire started when a large quantity of wood chip was set alight.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire FIre and Rescue said: "We are currently attending a large barn fire at a farm in Long Buckby.

"Six crews were called to Station Road in the village at 8.11pm where a quantity of wood chip was alight. An aerial platform and water bowser are in use and we received assistance from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and support from Northamptonshire Police.

"The Warwickshire appliance has now been released but the incident is continuing.

"Residents are urged not to attend the scene and keep windows and doors closed until at least midday."
