Firefighters repeat strike

Firefighters Strike, Daventry.

YESTERDAY (Wednesday)saw the district’s firefighters take part in another day of industrial action.

The team at Daventry’s fire station, in Staverton Road, walked out at 10am, and returned to their posts at 2pm.

The strikes have been called by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) over proposals by the Government to make changes to pensions and working conditions, including requiring people to work longer but maintain the same fitness levels, potentially meaning frontline firefighters serving into their 60s, or facing forced retirement earlier on a reduced pension.

There have already been three similar strikes, with cover maintained by the county’s chief fire officer.
