Families urged to take on reading challenge

Families are being invited to take part in bedtime reading sessions taking place at Northamptonshire libraries this half-term as part of the Take 10 pledge campaign.

Take10 encourages parents to sign up to spend 10 minutes every day reading with their child in a bid to boost the reading skills of primary school age children in the county.

The bedtime reading sessions are free and children are encouraged to wear their pyjamas and take along their favourite cuddly toy for the storytime event.

Cllr Robin Brown, county council cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “These fantastic free events are a great opportunity for parents to see how reading with their child at bedtime can be a lovely thing to do together.

“Reading aloud with your son or daughter is a wonderful bonding experience while also helping to develop their listening and language skills.

“These events are also a great way for us to encourage even more parents to take the Take 10 pledge and commit to spending 10 minutes every day reading with their child.”

Bedtime reading events are taking place at all 36 libraries this half-term.
