Extra homes would grow West Haddon by half

VILLAGERS have been left feeling anxious as plans for up to 100 new homes have been revealed for West Haddon.

Davidsons Developments Limited will be holding a public exhibition of the plans on land to the east of the village between Guilsborough Road, Northampton Road and the A428 bypass. The plans will be between 75 and 100 homes.

The chairman of the parish council’s planning committee Alan Perks said: “We are feeling very anxious in the village because we are currently in the process of developing a neighbourhood plan which we hope will help stop developments like this.

“There are just over 600 homes in the village at the moment. Including this application and others in the pipeline there will be 300 extra homes, that’s a 50 per cent increase in the size of the village.”

He is also worried about the impact on the facilities in the village.

Cllr Perks added: “The primary school is already at capacity.

“There is issues with electricity flickering during peak hours which is currently being looked at. There are issues with flooding in the village which Anglian Water is currently looking into.

“All of this houses are being looked at as way of making the landowners some money, there will be no benefit for the people in the village and no increase in the facilities.

“I would strongly urge anyone with views on the application to go down to the public exhibition and give their views on this development.”

The public exhibition will be at West Haddon Village Hall on Tuesday February 18 between 3pm and 8pm.
