Ex-England rugby international Harry Ellis will be the guest of honour at this year’s Daventry District Sports Awards.
Ellis, who represented Leicester Tigers, England and the British & Irish Lions at scrum half before injury cut short his career, will present the winners with their awards at a formal evening celebration this Thursday, October 22.
The event, which will be held in the Saxon Suite at Daventry Leisure centre, will be hosted by BBC Radio Northampton’s Martin Heath.
Run by Everyone Active in partnership with Daventry District Council, the awards aim to celebrate the wealth of sporting talent in Daventry District, from athletes succeeding on the field of play to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help their club or school.
There are categories for the best sportsman and sportswoman, community club, volunteer, team, coach and disabled sportsperson as well as awards recognising young achievers, a lifetime contribution to sport, and the best sporting primary and secondary schools.
Councillor Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “The Daventry District Sports Awards is always a wonderful event, but how fantastic, in the midst of an rugby world cup on home soil, to have a former England international join us for the evening to present the awards.
“We are thrilled to be able to welcome Harry Ellis to Daventry, so he can join us in celebrating the wealth of sporting talent we have in this District.”
