Event encourages community spirit

A picnic to celebrate family life and community returns
to a Daventry estate over May bank holiday.

The Southbrook Community Picnic On The Field is held to honour family togetherness and provide quality time for families to relax together, as well as meet others in the community.

This year’s picnic takes place on Saturday, May 31 from 11am to 2pm on the DSLV school sports field on the estate.

Entry to the event, which is organised by the Southbrook Community Association, is free, and there is also entertainment lined up.

A spokesman said: “As well as eating until we pop, our family picnic is a time for both the children and adults to relax and enjoy each other’s company, play traditional family games, and hopefully soak up the sun’s rays and chat with neighbours and old friends while the children play together.”

The Southbrook Community Association is also providing the free entertainment for the event, which will include arts and crafts, large family games, circus skills, Talking Rhythms African drumming workshop, face-painting, and a bouncy castle.

And there is the chance to get a free family portrait taken at a pop-up photo booth.

This year’s competition for the picnic is asking residents of all ages to draw, paint, or create a collage of what their family likes to do together.

All pictures entered before the deadline of Wednesday,, May 28, will be used to create a banner to be displayed at the picnic, and there are many prizes for best entries.

Entry forms and details about the rules of the competition, will be available on www.southbrookcommunityassociation.btck.co.uk, or from the community centre in Hood Road 3.30-6pm Monday to Friday.

Picnickers need to bring their own food and drinks, and ideally a blanket to sit on.
