Improvements to the site include fitting an activity area, installing more touchy-feely boxes, general repairs to the building and putting more wildlife information on display.

A flat-screen television will also be installed in the centre showing live video feeds to birds nests, while a mural depicting the countryside will be painted and put on display.

The visitors centre will be closed for two weeks while work is carried out by engineering firm Cummins and Travis Perkins, who are funding the project and providing volunteers.
