YOUNGSTERS at two primary schools have used a piece of Olympic history to create an art project.

Pupils at Brington and Harlestone Primary Schools spent the past few weeks stitching stories and images onto a second-hand sail cloth used during the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. They created a number of pennant flags using the material and these were exhibited at a celebration day on Thursday last week.

The project was part of Igniting Ambition, a cultural olympiad programme across the East Midlands. It takes the upcoming games to create once in a lifetime community projects.

The flags will be transported to the new Northampton Marina to dress the footbridges as part of the planned River Festival activities on Sunday, August 7.
