Drivers caught in ‘fatal four’ road campaign

A CAMPAIGN to tackle poor driving in Daventry has been hailed a success.

During the eight-week campaign, which also covered Northampton and Towcester areas, more than 100 vehicles were stopped for offences including using a mobile phone and not wearing a seat belt.

Northamptonshire Police worked with Daventry District Council to tackle the ‘fatal four’ of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, using a mobile phone while driving, and speeding – the key causes of most serious accidents in the UK.

Sgt Bob Smart said: “We know that those who drive for a living may become complacent about road safety and be tempted not to wear a seat belt for a short journey, or make a quick call, but we’ve sent out a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated as it is putting them and other road users at risk.”
