A COURSE has been launched in the Daventry area to help prevent the onset of diabetes.
Walking Away From Diabetes is running at the Abbey House Medical Practice and is one of a handful of pilot projects.
The aim is to help people prevent the onset of type two diabetes, the most common form of the illness.
The sessions give patients the chance to meet and share experiences with others and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
The first session was held on Wednesday last week with regular meetings until mid June.
One of the nurses who runs the scheme, Annette Hickman, said: “We have had around 10 participants and the feedback we have had from people has been very positive.”
Nurse, Edna Dewey, added: “Schemes like this are quite rare in the country, it’s a different idea but whether it becomes more widespread will depend on this trial.”
