A day of action to tackle anti-social behaviour, littering and dog fouling in Daventry town centre has been rescheduled after the first event was hit by heavy rain.

The event, organised by Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership, will now take place in the High Street on Tuesday, 27 May from 9.30am to 1pm.

A mobile police station will be there come rain or shine, with officers on hand to discuss any crime or community safety concerns with residents.

The event will also include two litter picks, on The Hollows from 10.30am to 11.30am and in the Rec in New Street from midday to 1pm.

Daventry District Council’s Environmental Health team will be reminding people of the rules concerning dog fouling and littering. Police officers will also be in the town centre handing out information leaflets and asking the public to have their say on a range of issues.

The rescheduled event follows on from similar Day of Action events at The Hollows last summer and on Daventry’s Southbrook estate in February.

Kevin Fagan, Community Partnerships Manager for the Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership, said: “Unfortunately the last Day of Action earlier this month was affected by heavy rain. These events are all about community engagement but with so few people out and about we felt it wasn’t the best use of our officers’ time and decided to reschedule.

“I’d like to emphasise that days such as these are not organised in isolation, they are just one of a number of ongoing measures and initiatives we take with our partners to identify and tackle issues.

“This time the mobile police unit will be open throughout the event, whatever the weather. The Day of Action will offer people a chance to discuss any concerns they have about anti-social behaviour, as well as finding out more about some of the community safety issues that the partnership is working to address.”

The Community Safety Partnership brings together partners including Daventry District Council, South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service, Northamptonshire County Council, NHS Northamptonshire and housing associations to reduce crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour within the community.
