Daventry to honour Merchant Navy Day
The ceremony takes place on Monday, September 3 at 10.30am 2018 at the Twinning Area in Daventry town centre; all are welcome to attend.
Daventry Town Council is one of more than 600 councils across the UK to participate in Merchant Navy Day to help raise awareness of the country's dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers.
The flag will be flown throughout the week.

Hide AdMonday (September 3) marks the official Merchant Navy Day which saw the first major British maritime casualty.
The merchant vessel SS Athenia was torpedoed just a few hours after hostilities were declared in 1939, killing 128 passengers and crew.
The Mayor of Daventry, Councillor Lynn Jones, will be supporting Seafarer’s UK Fly the Red Ensign for Merchant Navy Day campaign by attending the flag raising ceremony, along with other town council members and community leaders.
