Almost 200 yellow balloons, each carrying the dreams or goals of a child were launched from Daventry’s St James Infant School on Monday.

The balloon launch was held to mark the start of the school’s Be The Best You Can Be programme, which will see pupils discovering their unique potential and working towards their goals.

Each of the balloons carried a ticket on which the pupils had written their goals. The tickets also carry the school’s stamp and a phone number for anyone who discovers a balloon to report its location back to the school.

Anthony Clark, two time silver medalist at the World Badmington Championships, visited the school on Monday to talk to the youngsters and inspire them.

The project will include further themes which are designed to give the pupils the chance to discover the skills they need to follow their dreams.

Teacher Ali Wheeler said: “The children thought a lot about their goals before writing them on the tickets. It’s part of the 21st Century Legacy programme, which follows on from the 2012 Olympics, but the goals the children have can be anything, sporting or not. There will be lots of little steps for the children with help from teachers, friends and parents, in achieving their goals.
