Daventry cadet is flying high

Cadet Sgt Jay Heath of the Daventry Air Cadet unit is one of only 12 air cadets in the UK who has been picked to take part in the first overseas camp in the Ascension Islands.

This volcanic outcrop in the Southern Atlantic, located nearly 1,000 miles off the African coast, is home to RAF Ascension.

For the first time in the station’s history, air cadets will be flying there for a week’s camp this summer and Sgt Heath is one of a lucky few to be offered this once in a lifetime opportunity. They will experience island life and much more.

Sgt Heath said: “I’m honoured to be picked to visit this remarkable island and I’m really looking forward to meeting the service personnel that do a great job in such a remote place.”

This camp is one of many international camps air cadets get the opportunity to take part in, alongside the chance to learn how to fly, take part in adventure training and play sports.
