Daventry is getting ready for an action packed two weeks of entertainment, as the Arts Festival comes to town.
Running from Friday 5 July to Sunday 21 July, the third annual event is being organised by Daventry and District Housing (DDH) in partnership with a range of local organisations.
Local MP Chris Heaton-Harris will kick off the Festival this Friday, marking the launch with special guests from the many organisations who have
worked hard to make this year’s event happen.
Hosted at the iCon Centre, the first night of entertainment will follow with Strictly Daventry - a dancing competition just like the television show.
In this event, Chris Heaton-Harris will swap the microphone for his dancing shoes along with some other local high profile contestants. The packed two-week programme includes a mixture of music, dance, art, theatre, and photography. There will be a variety of events including the Summer Samba Daventry Youth Day event which is back for its second year with local musicians, and lots more.
There will be exhibitions throughout the town and workshops to allow people to try new activities.
Community Development Officer for DDH, Sarah Sims, highlighted the importance of the festival to the community: “It was touch and go at one stage whether we would have an Arts Festival this year after the Daventry Business Partnership disbanded.
“It has been down to the enthusiasm and interest of local organisations that we have been able to join together to plan such a fantastic programme of activities in a short period of time on a limited budget.
“There is so much local talent in Daventry and the Arts Festival is a real platform to showcase these skills.”
Daventry MP Chris Heaton-Harris, added: “Events such as this are vital for the community. Not only does it bring everyone together, it is a chance for local people to express themselves and showcase their talents.
“Unfortunately people will witness my ‘talents’ on the opening night during ‘Strictly Daventry’. I apologise in advance for my two left feet.”
