A gang of youths were seen by Liz Drinnan's blue vehicle while it was parked outside their house in Farnborough Drive just before 10pm on Sunday.

Her husband, Craig, said: "Our neighbours heard a group of lads going down the road then the sounds of someone climbing on a car.

"When they went out they could see a group of lads of about ten lads walking away. Apart from the damage nothing else is certain I'm afraid."

Craig said the police have been notified.

"The culprit left a very clear shoe impression and that this has been passed to the police," he said,

"We have asked local people on the Middlemore FB and Nextdoor groups to check for CCTV, but nothing as yet."

The Mazda will need a new roof skin, roof strengtheners and a new bonnet, costing £4,000.

Craig said his wife was very upset by the incident, adding: "A car not even a year old has been ruined by an idiot."

The couple will be claiming on insurance and now plan to install CCTV at their property.
