Three men have been arrested over an attempted break-in near Daventry after police crashed their getaway van on the A45.

Locals tipped off police about an attempted burglary in progress in the village of Willoughby.

The trio fled in their white Ford Transit van at aroun d 2.40pm on Wednesday (July 29) but were spotted less than hour later.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: "Following a short pursuit, a collision occurred on the A45 between Dunchurch and Stretton at around 3.30pm. Minor damage was sustained to the police vehicle and no-one was injured.

"A 23-year-old man from Coventry and a 21-year-old from Coventry were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. A 26-year-old man from Bedworth was also arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and possession of a knife or bladed article. All three remain in police custody at this time.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing and officers are keen for anyone who was in the area or witnessed anyone acting suspiciously to come forward."
