Severe delays continue on the M1 in Northamptonshire after lorry crashes down embankment

All lanes of the M1 in Northamptonshire have now reopened but long delays continue for drivers.

The M1 in Northamptonshire has reopened this afternoon following a serious crash involving a lorry.

Police, fire, ambulance and the air ambulance were all called to the M1 southbound this morning at around 7.42am where there was an accident involving a lorry between junction 15 for Northampton and 14 for Milton Keynes.

Thames Valley Police are dealing with the incident, with assistance from Northamptonshire Police.

A spokesman for Thames Valley said: “A lorry has come off the carriageway.

“We don’t know how or why at the moment. The lorry driver is injured and it’s potentially serious.”

The Highways Agency has been managing various different lane closures throughout the day.

Just before 3pm this afternoon Highways said the lorry had been recovered and all lanes are now reopen.

A spokesman added: “It’ll take time for the delays to ease.
