A driver suffered a fractured eye socket and face injuries during a shocking road-rage assault in Daventry.

Detectives revealed the 44-year-old, who was behind the wheel of a grey Audi A3, was stopped and then assaulted by the driver of a black Vauxhall Corsa as he turned off Yeomanry Road and went on to Thames Road in the town.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The offender approached the man, who was still sitting in his car, between 5pm and 5.15pm on Thursday, June 4. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained a fractured eye socket and lacerations which required hospital treatment.

"The offender we are looking for is described as a white man, of stocky build, with dark hair and a short dark groomed beard. He was wearing all black clothing.

"If anyone witnessed this incident or may have information which could help us, please call 101 using reference number 20000285349."
