Police hunt down BMW driver in 40-mile pursuit from Northampton to Rugby

Police chased a fleeing driver from Northampton across three counties in a dramatic high-speed pursuit before finally forcing him to surrender.

The 40-mile dash began after a grey BMW 3 Series failed to stop in the town yesterday (Monday April 20).

Officers set off after the vehicle which raced through the village Great Oxendon on the A508, Market Harborough and East Farndon across the border in Leicestershire and taking off along country roads before he was cornered in a residential area of Rugby more than an hour later at around 8pm,

Back-up from Northants' armed response vehicle team in a number of marked and unmarked cars was called in and a police helicopter scrambled to assist.

Quantities of drugs and cash were found and the vehicle seized. A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police confirmed a 30-year-old man was taken into custody.
